Michael Himick created the Action Learning Club in 2010 after spending nearly a decade as publisher and editor-in-chief of Knowledge News. Before that, Michael was vice president and executive producer at LifeMinders and managing editor of Britannica.com.
Kate Himick, 11, selects and writes posts for the “For Kids” section.
Kate loves to read and wants to be a marine biologist.
Will Gerard, 13, selects and writes posts for the “For Kids” section, too.
Will loves to read and plays sports of every sort.

Wow! This is such a coincidence! I only yesterday cleaned my e-mail and routinely got rid of folders that are no longer used; as I deleted the “Knowledge News” and “Every Learner” folders (lots of the content is saved to my harddrives), I felt a real stab of sadness and regret and paused to think of you and wish you well. So I am really thrilled to say congratulations and best wishes to your new endeavor and can’t wait to start receiving the new material.

Just yesterday I went to look at an old e-mail and saw an old Knowledge News one. I thought “what a shame it is no more”. I enjoyed so much during the time I received it. You have made an old lady (89) very happy with your return.

Michael, there you are! I too have been missing my Knowledge News dose of sanity. One day recently I realized I hadn’t heard from you in a while, and I had it on my to-do list to find out what happened to Knowledge News. It is a huge relief to see you resurfacing with a new project. My husband and I both work as editors and have endured life-changing career upheavals these past two years — so we empathize with your struggle toward a new editing identity. Good luck with the Action Learning Club — it looks like a winning idea! I’ll be sure to stay tuned.

I have attained the age of what a child calls, “Really OLD.” My first great-grandchild will be born in the next couple months. I have been a clown for the last 13 years. a great clown (Red Skelton I think) once said, “The great thing about being a clown is that you get to act like you are six years old.” That means looking at the entire world with eyes of wonder. Starting years ago in Knowledge News, you have looked at the entire world, and beyond. The six year old in me says that you have done a great job and I am looking forward to what you post in the future.
